BIOCOMBUST investigates the effects of biomass combustion on environment and health and will contribute to responsible use of this energy form in the trinational Upper Rhine region. It has four main goals:
- to assess the impact of particulate emissions from biomass-combustion installations on the local and regional air quality
- to improve the understanding of potential effects of particles from biomass combustion on health
- to evaluate the produced ash as a possible CO2-neutral clinker substitute for the cement industry
- to raise awareness about the relationships between biomass combustion, air quality and health and educate the population in the Upper Rhine region, especially students and pupils and persons working in education, agriculture, industry, politics, and business, through effective and targeted communication of the research results
